Sidney High School recognized as national Blue Ribbon School
Congratulations to Sidney High School for being one of six Nebraska schools to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2019.
The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to the honorees. “As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning.”
“Congratulations to the four Nebraska Blue Ribbon Schools,” said Nebraska Commissioner of Education Matthew Blomstedt. “These schools and their districts exemplify a focus on student success and equity. These schools demonstrate that focused and committed work leads to growth in educational achievement.”
The schools are: Columbian Elementary School in the Omaha Public Schools; Elkhorn Middle School in the Elkhorn Public Schools; Lincoln Montessori Elementary School in the Norfolk Public Schools; Mount Michael Benedictine School in Elkhorn and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, both in the Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools district; and Sidney High School in the Sidney Public Schools.
All six Nebraska schools were honored in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category.
Now in its 37th year, the Blue Ribbon program has recognized more than 9,000 schools.
